Alice was a recent nursing school graduate when she met Cicero Ayers. After Alice and Cicero wed, she travelled to Japan where Cicero was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. After returning to the United States, Alice became a surgical nurse specializing in Ophthalmology, a career she enjoyed for many years, in Winston-Salem, N.C. However, Alice had an entrepreneurial spirit and left nursing to pursue a business career by starting and operating Salem Frames Inc., a wholesale supplier of cross stitch, needle point, and craft supplies. In her later working years, Alice owned a retail store focused on cross stitch and crafts. Upon retirement, Alice and Cicero moved to Tampa, Florida.
Alice loved cross stitch and created or collected many pieces. She loved sports, especially tennis and golf, and watched matches often. One of her favorite pastimes was going to thrift stores and finding interesting items to repurpose or decorate her home. Most of all, Alice loved her family. She was an amazing wife of 68 years to Cicero, and a loving mother to her two sons, Matthew and Michael.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Cicero Ayers, and a grandson, Jacob Ayers.
She is survived by her two sons, Matthew Ayers and Michael Ayers; Her daughters in law, Kathy Ayers and Andrea Ayers; Her grandchildren William Lowe Ayers and Faryn Reilly Ayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alice may be made to LifePath Hospice.
Interment will take place on December 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell along with her husband, Cicero.
