Barbara Jean Ryan

1 février 195224 mars 2020

Barb Ryan passed away on March 24th and is now in the arms of Jesus, free of pain and filled with joy.

Barb was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 1, 1952. She is predeceased by her parents Bob Fett and Gale Grundy; brother Mickey Fett. She is survived by her husband Steve, son Stephen Jr., sister Susan and brothers John, Jeff, and Bobby as well as her uncle Ken, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Barb was a remarkable woman who overcame extraordinary health challenges, never complaining, always saying “I have put everything in the hands of the Lord.” She literally sang that on a 911 ambulance ride several years ago.

Barb was a most caring, loving person with two passions, serving her Lord and teaching children. After several years working in a day school, “Ms. Barb” (as the kids and parents called her) opened her home day school in 2000. She was so proud and excited to be able to provide a Christian-based Pre-K program for her “kiddos” as she called them.

Barb loved to decorate for all the holidays. That tradition will remain in place, even though her husband Steve will probably put everything out of order.

Barb also was involved in Christian outreach programs, such as the Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis programs through the United Methodist Church and the Kairos Prison Ministry. She was blessed to be a lay director for a Walk to Emmaus retreat.

Barb will be greatly missed by her family and many others she touched in her life, including staff members at the local pharmacy, supermarket, and other retail stores she frequented (she loved to shop). Celebration services are on hold due to the current situation in our nation, but will be held at a future date. If you wish to do so, you may make a contribution in Barb’s name to her two favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and USO.

I first met Barb several years ago walking in our neighborhood here in Tampa. We became good friends and shared many great times walking in the neighborhood, shopping at Citrus Park Mall,
Day Trips to Mazzaros and Catfish Country, as well as Lakeland with Steve and Stephen.
I shared many holiday dinners with Barb, Steve and Stephen and have so many wonderful memories.
I think of Barb often and am so blessed to have known her.

I’ve known Stephen since 1997. When I found myself as a single parent two years ago and had to leave with nothing but my three children and the clothes on our back, the Ryan family became an integral part of my new village. My daughter even referred to Ms Barb as “Florida Grandma”.

Those decorations that will now get put up out of order? Ms Barb even gave us a few that first Christmas we were here. One of the many things that she blessed us with ended up being a nativity set that exactly matched one belonging to my late grandmother. It was one of the very few items that I missed when I left my old home and all its contents behind— I couldn’t help but take that as a message from God that she was one of our angels caring for us during that uncertain time. ❤️

Ms Barb was indeed an angel to so many by treating everyone just like family— as I continue to rebuild and develop as a person, I hope and pray that I can continue to follow her example and somehow pass her spark along to the rest of the world.

I met Barb at a childcare association meeting right after she joined the childcare profession. We hit it off right away, shared the same birthdate and many other interest. I admired the dedication she had toward the early childcare profession. I know she will receive an awesome reward for her love for the children, I will miss you my friend.

We met Ms Barb in 2009 when my daughter was just 18 months old. She was a part of Ms Barb’s daycare and then my twin boys arrived in 2010. Ms Barb later became the nanny to my kids and we couldn’t have been more blessed to have her as a part of our life. She was truly part of the family - as were Mr Steve and Stephen (and still are).
Thank you Ms Barb for loving my family. We will miss you so much, but we know you will always be watching over us. ❤️

I never got to meet her in person but I feel like I knew her through Stephen. That is a true testament to the loving woman she was.

She was a nurturer not just in her career but in life through ministries and her family.

She will be missed. My condolences to all who were touched by her caring heart.

Barb has been a long time friend going back about 45 yeArs. We spent a lot of time together when our kids were little but not as often after she moved to Florida. I did make it a point to see the Ryans on my last trip down at the end of January. We visited twice and I will cherish that time always.
I am praying for God's love to the family.

I met her and Steve and Stephen through a bible study. We've been friends ever since. Always encouraging and an encourager. I admired all the angels that she had through out her house. Now she's with the angels!
