Barbara Songy was born on September 20, 1948 to Samuel and Geraldine Goodwin. She grew up with brother, Thomas (Tommy) and sister, Carol in Birmingham, AL. While studying for her degree in biology from Auburn University, she met the love of her life, Michael (Mike) Songy. After Michael joined the United States Marines, the two married. During their marriage, they lived in California, Georgia, and Tennessee before finally settling in Florida, where they both resided until they passed on.
During her career, Barbara worked as a science teacher, a tutor, and a Mary Kay sales consultant.
Barbara and Mike had two children, Christopher and Patrick Songy. Barbara was a devoted and loving mother, focusing on the education and development of both of her children.
After Mike suffered a stroke in 2007, Barbara retired and devoted her efforts to his care until his passing in November of 2018.
The cornerstone of Barbara’s life was her Catholic faith, which she adopted from her mother and practiced for her whole life. At the time of her passing, Barbara was an active and beloved member of St. Paul’s Parish and a daily Mass attendee. Barbara had a deep spiritual life and a strong kinship with many of her fellows in the faith. She enriched the lives of so many dear friends in her Catholic community.
Barbara completed the final journey of her faith on April 1, 2025. She is survived by her brother and sister, her two sons and daughters-in-law, and her three beloved grandchildren.
