

Brenda Mei-Lon Choy (“Loni”) passed away in the early morning hours of November 9, 2017. Her bright light and vivacious personality will be truly missed by all. She is survived by her husband Frank Choy, Jr., children Alison and Clay, son-in-law Chris, daughter-in-law Kristi and grandchildren Cody, Itzela, Jordan and Javier and her brother Lenny. She is predeceased in death by her mother, father and brother Wesley. Born in Maryland, her childhood was spent growing up in Manhattan’s Chinatown before relocating to NJ with her family at the age of 12. She remained a resident of New Jersey for more than 30 years, save a two year “audition” in California before returning to start a life with her newlywed husband. She received her Bachelors’ Degree from Rutgers University - Douglas College, and her Masters’ of Social Work from Columbia University, School of Social Work. She worked as a Social Worker in both private practice and public service, the majority of her career spent as a School Social Worker for the Newark Board of Education focusing on the welfare of children in the community. She married Frank Choy, Jr. during the summer of 1967, and recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. As a retired 17 year resident of Florida she enjoyed cooking delicious creative dishes, spending time with family, crocheting intricate dolls, creating amazing hand crafts and traveling both domestically and internationally. Funeral visitation will be open Saturday, November 18 from 10:00am - 12pm EST at The Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 3207 W. Bearss Ave. Tampa, FL 33610. Funeral services will begin at 12:00pm EST.
