

Brenda A. Russell passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday February 17, 2025. She was born on May 23, 1951, to the late Edith E. Shippee, in Providence, Rhode Island. She was the youngest of three siblings. Brenda is preceded in death by Bridget Blais, her sister, best friend and confidant, and her brother, Alfred “Butch” Sormanti. Brenda graduated in 1967 from Hope High School and began working as a supervisor first at the Visiting Nurse Association then later at the Women’s & Infants Hospital.
Brenda was a force of nature, strong-willed and passionate. She had an extraordinary love of life and was most happy when she was spending time with her family and friends. She was also deeply involved in her community, and gave generously of her time, money, and talent for the benefit of others. After moving to Florida and retiring from CareCentrix, Brenda spent much of her time volunteering at the Town and Country Senior Center. Upon the onset of Alzheimer’s, she loved spending time at the TLC Adult Daycare and Recreation Center.
Brenda is survived by her husband Estes Rodgers, Jr. of 43 years, who tirelessly cared for her at home during the darkest days of her illness, her daughter Michelle Russell-Addison and husband Theodore Addison, Jr., Gina Best, Charlene Taylor and husband Thomas Taylor, her son Estes Rodgers, III and wife, Dena Rodgers, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren.
Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the celebration of life service followed by Columbarium inurnment on Monday March 3, 2025, at 9:45 am in Swan Point Cemetery 585 Blackstone Blvd. Providence, RI 02906. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her tribute to TLC Adult Day Care and Recreation Center 3970 Tampa Rd. Ste J, Oldsmar, FL 34677.
