Edwin Peña

Peña, Edwin, age 73, was called to report to heaven on March 27th, 2023. He passed away peacefully at his home after his wife, Hilda Acevedo-Peña, lovingly said goodbye. He went in the only way he wanted to go, with strength and dignity.

Although Edwin’s health battle was long and taxing, he never wavered his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Edwin worked at the University of South Florida for 28 years as a Maintenance Mechanic. He was a pastor (Iglesia Ebenezer). He was his son’s (Edwin Jr.) hero. Not because he wore a cape or shot webs from his hands, but, because he did a superhero’s work in making a difference in people’s lives every chance he had. He lived what he believed, and what he preached.

That through the Love of Christ, a person’s life can change for the better. He fed the hungry, he clothed those who needed, he comforted those who suffered, and he worked tirelessly to make the world around him better than it was the day before each morning he was blessed to wake up. If you ever benefited from the Grace of God by way of Edwin’s love and devotion to Christ, then please join his surviving family in celebrating his life and legacy by being the person you were destined to be for the benefit of others and to God be ALL the Glory.

Thank you for your service dad. The Army of Christ has received a decorated servant. All who survive, receive a call to the front line to pick up his life’s mission of making a positive difference every day you are blessed to be alive.

Edwin is survived by his loving, loyal, and amazing wife Hilda Peña, his only son Edwin Peña, his spouse Melinda Peña, his grandson Anthony Joseph Peña, and his granddaughter Alyssa Michelle Peña. Edwin Sr. was pre-deceased by his mother Elisa Rivera-Peña, father Julio Peña, brother Ramon Peña, brother Heriberto “Herbie” Peña. Surviving Siblings, Aida Guevara, Ana Eva Figueroa, Julio “Papo” Peña, Migdalia Peña, Altagracia Rivera, Daisy Peña, Nancy Peña, Epifanio “Pete” Peña, and the countless Brothers and Sisters in Christ who grew to love him like their own.

A visitation for Edwin will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610. A funeral service will follow at 6:00pm. A committal service will occur Friday, March 31, 2023 at 10:00am at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610.
