Gregory Allen James

Greg was born in South Charleston, WV, to Willard (Bud) and Julia F. James on April 12, 1958. He attended public schools in Bluefield, WV, and graduated in 1976 from Bluefield High School.  He married Meredith Rowan in 2009, and they resided in West Tampa. Greg attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. He began his career in Florida banking and, most recently, as an insurance agent in Tampa.

Mr. James is preceded in death by his father, Bud James, in 2008, and his brother, Kenneth “Mike,” who passed away in February 2022.

Greg is survived by his wife, Meredith; children, Ashley (Shane) Burda of Tampa, Brittany (Brandon) Whiteman of Ocala, FL; three grandchildren, Amelia “Mia” Burda of Tampa, McKinley & Cooper Whiteman of Ocala, FL; mother, Julia James, of Tampa; brother, Patrick (Teresa) and daughters (Kayla, Nicole, & Morgan) of Rockwall, TX.

Serving Mr. James as his pallbearers will be Shane Burda, Brandon Whiteman, John David Brant, Jeffry & Kyle Sowma, and Rob Grundy.

Visitation services will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, on Monday, June 9, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Mr. James' funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 15520 North Blvd in Tampa with the Reverend Fr. Jonathan Stephanz officiating.
