Hannelore Hourigan was born in Esslingen, Germany, to Frederick Bear and Emilie Reim on March 20, 1929. She married an American soldier, James (Jim) Hourigan in February 1953 in the town of Obertürkheim, Germany. Hannelore was an Army wife for almost 20 years, having moved with her family every year. She came to this country speaking very little English and taught herself to speak, read, and write in English.
Hannelore is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Emilie Baer, her husband James M Hourigan, and brother Manfred Baer.
Hannelore is survived by her four children, son Mike Hourigan wife Joanne Devine, two daughters Patty Baldwin and Kelly Abrams, and son Kevin Hourigan. Ten grandchildren Dan and Emilie Hourigan, Celina and Brittany Baldwin, Brian and Sean Abrams, Grace, Claire, Ben, and Susannah Hourigan, and three great-grandchildren, Miles and Finn Hourigan, and Scarlett Taymon.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Blount Curry Funeral Home on Bearss Ave. Hannelore will be buried at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with her husband Jim.
