Helen Jarrell Cory

Helen Clarece (Jarrell) Cory died peacefully on September 12, 2024 in Tampa, Florida where she had been a long-time resident. Helen was 92. She was the daughter of Clarence Curtis Jarrell and Nancy Alice Hall. Helen was the oldest of four children including the late Willis Hall Jarrell, James “Buddy” Jarrell, and Sarah Ann Jarrell. She was married to the late Robert Weaver Cory for forty-two years. They had three children, Robert James Cory (Tampa, FL), Richard Charles Cory (Roswell, GA), and Kenneth Douglas Cory (Frisco, TX). She is survived by her three sons, her brother, her sister, five grandsons, and two great-grandchildren.

Helen was born in Houma, Louisiana and raised in rural Lisbon, LA. She not only excelled in school, but she often tutored her classmates. She graduated with Honors with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Louisiana State University in 1954 where she was a member of the Alpha Beta Chi Sorority. She received a master’s degree in Education from Hofstra University. Helen worked as a stewardess with Pan American World Airways where she met Bob who was a pilot with Pan Am. Helen had a passion for teaching. She taught Sunday School classes for many years. She founded and ran Pathway Children’s Center, a preschool and after school learning center. Helen was married on September 12th, gave birth to a son on September 12th, and died on September 12th.

She deeply loved her family and her country, and was a strong follower of Christ.

A funeral service will take place at 11AM on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Blount and Curry Funeral Home-Carrollwood located 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33618. The family will receive friends one hour prior starting at 10AM.
