

Hortensia Perez (94) passed away on Sept. 14, 2025 in Tampa. She was born in Tampa on Sep. 10, 1931 to parents Berardo "Cuco" Macias and Leopoldina Escuela. She is survived by her children, Rachel Y. Benchwick (Paul) and Daniel C. Perez (Robin), grandchildren Marc J. Miller (Hyun Ji), Matthew T. Miller (Michelle), Rachel Wille (Jeff), and Dina Perez Lucas (Murdock); great-grandchildren Cora, Amelia, and Lucas Miller, Paisley & Tyler Wille, and Nika Perez Lucas. Also Hortensia's sister Margarita Bergeron, and niece Lorrie Escobar (Ray) whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband and a grandson. Hortensia was a loving person and was always willing to help someone in need. She was a great seamstress all her life and loved to sew, loved making crafts, and enjoyed going out for Cuban coffee & toast and shopping with her sister and niece when they picked her up. Her family wishes to thank her Hospice care team at St. Joseph Hospital and her neighbors Diana, Becky, Judy, and Israel, and especially her home caretaker Nuerka. Also her many friends, especially her former West Tampa neighbors Norma Busciglio, and her children Diana, Elaine, David & Daren. They were like family to her. Hortensia was baptized into Christ in 1983 and had no fear of passing, having made her final prayer to God, she is at peace with Him in heaven. She always told us, "be strong."
