Jacqueline M. Turner was born in Cherbourg, France, to Marguerite and Edouard Leseigneur, April 21, 1927. She passed away peacefully in her sleep June 27, 2024, in Tampa, Florida. “Jackie” was a French interpreter for the US Army at the end of WWII. During the recent “D-Day” 80th anniversary commemoration, Jacqueline was remembered as instrumental in efforts to transfer the remains of deceased US service men and women to the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer in Normandy, France. She worked with the US Graves Registration in Carentan, France. Later, when she was transferred to Cherbourg at Transatlantic Cablehead, she met her husband, Vic Turner. They were married for 64 years until his death in 2014.
Jacqueline was a partner in Turner Construction in Lebanon, Ohio, for over 30 years. Her reputation as a designer in new construction and remodeling was well-known in the Tri-State. While living in Ohio and then after her move to Florida, she found time to knit over 1000 little caps for newborns in the intensive care unit at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Her happiest times were volunteering at the Suncoast Hospice Resale Shop in St. Petersburg for over 20 years. She made many friends who she cherished all her remaining years.
Jacqueline and her husband, Vic, were residents at Bay Island in South Pasadena, Florida. They enjoyed making new friends there, participating in weekly dances, remodeling plans for the community, and entertaining her family from France, especially her mother, Marguerite.
Jacqueline was predeceased by her husband, Vic, her parents in Cherbourg, one sister, Suzanne Philibert, and two brothers, Jacques and Pierre Leseigneur. Her younger sister, Monique, still lives in Cherbourg.
Jacqueline’s three children mourn her passing: Brigitte Turner, previously a resident of St. Petersburg and now of Tampa, Barbara Persons of Independence, Kentucky, and Patrick Turner of Loveland, Ohio. She had 5 granddaughters: Michelle, Molly, Aimee, Rachel and Denise. Jacqueline also had 10 great-grandchildren.
Donations to Suncoast Hospice in Jacqueline’s memory would be appreciated.
