Born and raised in Tupper Lake, NY, John proudly served our country for twenty‑eight years in the United States Air Force. As a navigator on the KC‑135, he flew more than 140 combat missions during the Vietnam War. His service, courage, and dedication were a source of deep pride to all who knew him.
John had a gift for making people laugh—his sense of humor could bring on a true belly laugh from anyone fortunate enough to meet him. He was kind, respectful, humble, and deeply loved.
Golf was one of John’s lifelong passions. He began playing as a young boy and continued through high school, college, and well into his eighties. He was a devoted husband, father, and Papa—but above all, he was a faithful child of God. John prayed daily and lived as a devoted son of our Lord Jesus Christ. At church, he was active in the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, Bible study, and many other ministries.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sylvia Bobak; his beloved wife, Marie; his grandson, John Michael; his sisters, Jane Johnson and Lois Burns; and his nieces, Martha and Tootsie.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Bobak and Michele (Paul) Bernasconi; his granddaughters, Katherine, Anna, and Sarah Bernasconi; his brother-in-law, Robert Burns; his niece Sandy (Bill) Olson; his nephews Lyndon (Jodi) Johnson and Peter (Marjorie) Johnson; his sister‑in‑law Renee (Charles) Trebilcock; his brothers‑in‑law Mike (Kelly) Faour and John (Kim) Faour; and his nieces Katie Baker (children Brady and Cole), Erin (Johnathan) Rogers (children Mia, Natalie, and James), Alyse (Chris) Lanzilotti (child, baby girl), and Lauren Faour.
John will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Cheers to a life well lived—John, Daddy, Papa, brother‑in‑law, uncle and friend. We love you to the moon and back.
