Josefina Farias Figueredo, lovingly known as “Fina” and “Yeya” to her family, passed away peacefully in Tampa, Florida, on April 20, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on March 12, 1937 in Güira de Melena, Cuba, and was the cherished wife of the late Juan Ignacio Figueredo Sr., to whom she was married for 60 years.
She is survived by her five sons: Alberto (74), Jose Carlos (61), Victor Manuel (60), Jorge (59), and Juan Ignacio Jr.(58), as well as her 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren — her proudest accomplishments. She is also remembered by extended family and a wide circle of friends whose lives she touched with her warmth, wisdom, and fierce devotion.
Fina, Juan Sr. and young sons Jose, Victor and Jorge immigrated to the United States in 1966, reuniting the family with eldest son, Alberto, after a long and faithful wait. Juan Jr. was born in the US one year later. Together, she and Juan Sr. built a life rooted in family, faith, and Cuban tradition. A gifted cook, Fina was the heart of every gathering — famous for her unforgettable black beans, chicken fricassee, and yellow rice and chicken.
She was happiest in the kitchen, at the ballfields, or cheering from home — proudly supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in every sport and endeavor. A passionate fan of tennis, the Rays, the Bucs, and the Lightning, Fina brought the same competitive spirit and enthusiasm to her everyday life.
Her faith was her foundation. A devoted Catholic, Fina attended Mass at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and ended many evenings praying the rosary. Her deep belief in the grace of God brought her peace throughout her life, and comfort to her family as she reunites now with her beloved husband in eternal rest.
She will be remembered for her fiery spirit (often dressed in red), her strength, her gentleness, and above all, her love — which continues to live on in the family she raised and the legacy she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Josefina’s honor to The American Heart Association or The American Diabetes Foundation.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 11:00AM-12:00 Noon at Blount & Curry Funeral Home @ Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610. Funeral Service will take place at 12:00Noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
