

Joe is survived by Rita, his loving wife of 58 years. He is also survived by his children Mary and Mark Booth, Joann and Tom Griffing, and Joe and Michaela Gonzales as well as grandchildren, Ashley (Alex), Matthew (Katie), Caty (John), Joey (Mckenzie), Kelly (Tristan), Abby (Daniel), Sara, Jake, Patrick, and great grandchild, Kennedy.
Joe proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. While balancing his early career and growing family, he completed a degree in Business Administration at the University of South Florida.
Outside of work, he had a great passion for his family. Camping, traveling, trips to Disney, and the annual Jocko contest were highlights.
Joe volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years. He supported his son, Joe Gonzales Jr and grandson, Matthew Booth in earning Eagle Scout ranks, and grandson Patrick Griffing, on his path to Eagle.
His work with youth was highlighted by serving as the Seminole Lodge 85 Advisor. He received many prestigious scouting awards including Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth, and National Order of the Arrow Founders Award.
In retirement, Joe and Rita traveled the world. Cruises to Alaska, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Norway, Iceland, Argentina, and Antarctica were some of their greatest adventures.
The memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 5-7pm at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home located at 3207 W. Bearss Ave. Tampa, FL. 33618. A mass will be held on Thursday, December 12 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located at 15520 N Blvd, Tampa, FL 33613 with burial and Military Honors to follow at Florida National Cemetery located in Bushnell, FL. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center (www.Moffitt.org/give/ways-to-give) or the local Scouting Troop 12 (PO Box 1312 Lutz, FL 33548) in Joe's memory.
Joe will be remembered for his kindness, his great sense of humor, and his unwavering devotion to his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
