Joy Deborah Rogers, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and mentor, passed away on June 27th, 2024, at the age of 61, with family and friends by her side. Her family took solace in knowing she was reunited with the Lord Jesus Christ. Joy was born on June 28, 1962, in Stockholm, Sweden, to Gordon and Miriam Olson.
Growing up in a missionary household, Joy's father, a theologian, dedicated his life to studying the Bible. Her father was a missionary, pastor, writer, and translator of the New Testament and they spent many years as missionaries in Pakistan. Her mother became a Registered nurse after they returned to the States. Joy spent most of her childhood in New Jersey, where she graduated from Whippany Park High School as well as graduating from Morris County Vocational Technical School with her Cosmetology license.
Joy's faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life choosing to walk in the light and avoid darkness. Throughout her lifetime, Joy served in ministries at both Grace Family Church and Calvary Chapel of Tampa. She was an active member of the Beautiful Woman’s group and led
Bible studies at Grace Family Church, fostering a community of faith and support for about twenty women. She also participated in a women’s prison ministry in Hernando County for many years providing biblical teaching, mentoring, and fellowship with the women as well as supporting and mentoring the women after release. At Calvary Chapel, she played the keyboard on the worship team. She also led women’s ministries there. She actively participated in the community deepening her faith and supporting others in their spiritual journeys.
Joy became a realtor while living in Florida. She was fantastic at what she did and was able to meet so many people along the way and connect with them in meaningful ways. She was blessed with many wonderful friends whom she traveled with and shared beautiful memories. Joy also had a passion for selling luxury cruises, which afforded her the opportunity to travel to various destinations around the world with her husband. They explored Alaska, the Mediterranean, Europe, the Baltics, South America, and the Caribbean, creating cherished memories along the way.
On October 7, 2006, Joy married Tim, blending their two families together. Together, they had four children, with ages ranging from 14 to 24 at the time of their marriage. Joy and Tim founded a successful business in real estate development and property management under the name TJR Properties and Investments LLC.
While Joy achieved many professional milestones, her most significant passion was serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, sharing the “Good News” of Christ with others. She was a loving wife to Tim and a loving and nurturing mother to all of her four children, including her in-laws.
She poured her heart into their lives, ensuring they felt loved and supported. She exemplified the values of faith, hope, love, and commitment in her marriage and family.
Joy loved the outdoors and spent many years hiking and climbing the Smoky Mountains, boating, and swimming around the islands off of Tarpon Springs, Florida. She had a love for water sports. Additionally, she learned how to upholstery and refurbish furniture which became a true passion of hers. She enjoyed playing card games with family and frequently
hosted game nights with friends.
