

Kevin Walker Johnson, 71, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on March 6, 2025, at Melech House in Temple Terrace, Florida. Born on August 4, 1953, in Covington, Kentucky, Kevin lived a life of dedication to his community with compassion, courage, fun and a deep love for those around him.
Kevin pursued his education at Morehead State University in Kentucky before continuing his studies at Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida, where he earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice. His passion for law enforcement led him to a distinguished 38-year career with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Throughout his tenure, he served in various roles, including deputy, undercover officer, member of the Underwater Recovery Dive Team, detective, and aviation pilot. He worked on major cases as part of the Smuggling Division, the FBI Task Force, the FDLE Task Force, and Intelligence. His dedication and expertise made a lasting impact on his colleagues and community.
Beyond his career, Kevin found joy in spending time with family and friends, pranking others, shooting at the range, sense of humor, boating, traveling, and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats as well as college football. He was a proud supporter of his country and its leadership.
Kevin was an active member of several organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America as an Eagle Scout, the Temple Terrace Little League, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at USF, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Florida Sheriffs Association (Life Member), IADRS Dive Rescue International, the Airborne Law Enforcement Association, and a dedicated volunteer at Hospice of Tampa Melech House.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Betty Johnson. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Carly Johnson and Chelsea Nichols (Steve), and his cherished grandson, Lennon and grand dog Rexy. He also leaves behind his brother, Kimber Johnson (Lorraine), niece Susannah Johnson, cousins Barri Jill Swanson and Samantha Swanson, and former wife, Deanna Johnson.
Kevin's was a true light in this world and his life will be honored in a service celebrating his legacy. Details will be shared with family and friends.
A visitation for Kevin will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Keystone United Methodist Church located at 16301 Race Track Rd, Odessa, FL 33556, followed by a celebration of life fat 5:00 PM.
