Margaret Goodson, of Tampa, was born January 2, 1922, in Wilson, NC., the middle daughter of John W. and Georgia Estelle Askew (Hall), deceased. Margaret passed away May 10, 2018, in Asheville, NC, while visiting her daughter Peggy. Margaret is survived by her son and his wife, Sherman S. and Fran Steadman, Jr.; daughter Peggy E. Goodson; and her son and his wife Robert A. and Susan Goodson. Margaret is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Scott Steadman (Kim), Brad Steadman (Natalie), Shannon Walsh Baker (John), Todd S. Walsh (Megan), Lisa Niemi (John), Michelle O’Connell, and Amanda Goodson; 7 nieces and nephews, and 11 great grandchildren. Margaret was also preceded in death by her husband Arthur Rowan Goodson; sisters Edna Earle Courtright and Mary Frances Woolweaver and a nephew John A. Courtright, Jr. Margaret was passionate about volunteering at the Straz Center where a volunteer award was established in her name. She was a major supporter and volunteer at Meals on Wheels and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church. Margaret received the St. Jude Medal, and was honored by President George W. Bush for her volunteerism. Margaret was loved by many and will be sorely missed by us all. A special thank you to Frances (Woolweaver) and Tommy Farina for their loving help and kindness to Margaret. In lieu of flowers, donations to Meals on Wheels will be appreciated.
Services will be held at Blount & Curry at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, FL. Visitation will be May 16, at 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Service of Celebration will be May 17, at 11:00 a.m., with burial to immediately follow. Please dress in bright colors Margaret did not like sad services.
