Margaret J. Vasquez Martino, 94, of Brandon, left this Earth on December 20, 2024 after a 2½ year battle with dementia. She was born in Memphis,TN but moved with her parents to Tampa as a young child. A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, a "notable" in the class of 1948, and a Tampa Business College graduate, Margaret married Peter L. Martino in 1950 in an elegant ceremony at OLPH Catholic Church followed by a "talk of the town" reception at Davis Island Yacht Club. The couple enjoyed 60 wonderful years together until Peter's death in 2010.
Affectionately known as "Memaw" to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others who knew and loved her, Margaret was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents, Frances and Louis Vasquez, and her sister Sylvia Fitzgerald. Margaret was an avid Bingo player and Tampa Bay Rays fan. She is survived by her three daughters, Marlene Alspach (Barry), Yvonne Painton (Scott), and Nancy Gomez (Benny), three grandchildren, Mark Alspach (Mindy), Amy Janego, and Danny Gomez, and four great grandchildren, Trent & Mya Janego and Summer & Jace Alspach. Margaret had a huge heart, a charitable nature, a divine wit, and was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by all.
The family will be holding visitation from 11:00AM to 12:00PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories (4207 E Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL 33610). The funeral service will be held at the funeral home immediately following the visitation and the graveside service will immediately follow the funeral service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Margaret would be touched by a donation to one of her favorite charities, St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
