Marilyn was born in Shadydale, Georgia to Malinda Viola Digby and Charles Coyle Cargile on February 6, 1935. She was the youngest child having five older brothers and sisters. Her father was a sharecropper and she helped work the fields even as a child. When she was about nine years old, her family moved to west Atlanta. Later she married Billy Sheets, Sr. who was in the army. They moved to North Carolina and were later stationed in Germany. Marsha was born while Billy was in Germany. Marilyn and Marsha traveled to Germany to join Billy and while they were stationed there, Billy Sheets, Jr. was born. They returned to the United States and Peggy was born in North Carolina. Eventually they moved back to the Atlanta area where they raised their three children and she worked as a waitress/hostess at Dobbs House at the (old) Atlanta Airport. She and Billy Sheets divorced and she later married James (Jim) Roberts and they had a son, Joel Roberts. She later worked as a waitress until the family moved to Orlando and she began working in retail, specifically, fine and high fashion jewelry. Marilyn then moved back to the Atlanta area where she and Jim Roberts divorced. In her later years she moved to the Tampa Bay area, bought her home in Pinellas Park and continued to work for JC Penny and Nordstrom’s Department stores until her retirement. She was very house proud and enjoyed planting and keeping her beautiful flower gardens. Over time, she reunited with Billy Sheets and they again married until his death. Her siblings, nieces and nephews and friends were very fond of her and always kept in touch.
