Mary Sidney Twachtmann

Born in Wauchula, Florida on October, 20 1933 to Mary Nelson Stansfield and Sidney “Captain Sid” Stansfield, she was a graduate of Plant High School, Stephens College, and Florida State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

She is survived by her two daughters Mary Dale Twachtmann and Jeannette Twachtmann and her best friend and companion Jeanette Friedheim, who’s large extended family considered her one of their kin. Mary Sidney was a physical education teacher, administrator, and board member at Morning Star School, Tampa--where she dedicated her life’s work as a teacher, fundraiser, counselor, and mentor to the students, faculty, and families for more than 50 years. As an avid golfer and ladies club champion at the Carrollwood Golf & Tennis Club, she was a sports enthusiast who instilled the values of sportsmanship and self-discipline in the many lives she touched. She loved a grand road trip, the FSU Seminoles, her daughters, the sunsets and waves on the Gulf at her home away from home on Indian Shores.

Prayer service will be held Monday, March 14 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow in Duffy Hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks you please send a donation to Morning Star School Tampa, 210 E. Linebaugh Ave. Tampa, FL 33612.
