Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Matt proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard for six years before pursuing a career in technology. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management and went on to dedicate 15 years of service to the City of Tampa, where he worked as a Senior Systems Analyst.
Matt was a man of deep faith, sharp wit, and endless heart. His family was the center of his world, and he found true joy in every moment spent with his wife and children. He approached life with a playful spirit, always eager to bring his friends and family along on his many adventures. Whether it was rolling dice on Saturday game nights, taking family trips to Universal Studios, or celebrating the long-awaited opening of Epic Universe together, Matt embraced life with enthusiasm and love. He found happiness in jeeping with friends, doting on his beloved bulldogs, and sharing the humor and warmth that made everyone feel at home in his presence.
Matt had a smile that could light up a room and a charm that made everyone feel like a friend. As his loved ones often said, in Dungeons & Dragons terms, “he rolled high in charisma.” His magnetic spirit made him impossible not to love—people were drawn to his vibrant energy and genuine heart, a gift he carried since childhood. Matt’s unwavering kindness, quick smile, and generous nature made him a steady and loyal presence in the lives of many. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Michael Harper; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandmother. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kristen Harper, and their two children, Micah and Lily Harper; his mother, Catherine Healy; his sister, Candace Rose; his brother, Christopher Earnest; his stepbrothers, Alfredo Gonzalez Jr., Daniel Gonzalez, and Michael Gonzalez; his grandfather, Dave Roberts; and his aunt and uncle, Barbara and Jimmy Lowe.
A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 3rd, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, FL 33548.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Harper Family via GoFundMe to support them during this difficult time.
Matt’s legacy lives on through the love he gave, the laughter he inspired, and the faith that carried him home.
