December 2, 1951 – August 21, 2025
Max Abellana, Jr., 73, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on August 21, 2025. He was born on December 2, 1951, in Cebu City, Philippines. Max built a life defined by dedication, curiosity, and joy. He attended San Carlos University in Cebu City and completed his psychology major at Marshall University in West Virginia. He later obtained his degree in pulmonary respiratory therapy from the University of Chicago, laying the foundation for a lifelong career in healthcare. Max was the proud owner of Pulmonics of Florida, a pulmonary respiratory business he operated for 40 years. His commitment to helping others breathe easier was matched only by his entrepreneurial spirit. He was known for his love of outdoor activities, including tennis, cycling, motorcycling, radio-controlled boats, and fishing—pursuits that reflected his passion for freedom, nature, and the thrill of the ride. His zest for life was contagious and often included “urging” his wife to take walks with their beloved dog, Janna, even in the height of the Florida heat. He cherished the company of friends and nourished those relationships over the years by regularly attending parties. He loved karaoke—complete with his own equipment at home—and line dancing, even if his coordination didn’t always keep up with his enthusiasm. Starting from scratch as a business owner, Max mentored his sales staff and took pride in building his company. The pinnacle of his career was providing a wide range of medical equipment—including ventilators, oxygen, CPAP, BiPAP, nebulizers, wheelchairs, and hospital beds—to Medicare/Medicaid, and TriCare patients across the state. He made a lasting impact on the physicians and hospital personnel he encountered. Max is survived by his wife, Janette; his dog, Janna; Siblings: Beau, Chris, Sean, Scarlette, Lee Ann, Carmen, Helene and too many nieces and nephews to count. He will be fondly remembered by friends throughout the Filipino American community.
A visitation for Max will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, Florida.
