

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Melvin was a proud graduate of Pearl High School, Class of 1955. He then served in the United States Air Force and later earned his degree from Tennessee State University in 1964. A lifelong learner and passionate professional, Melvin began his career as a social worker before transitioning into the corporate world. He worked in sales for IBM, served as a pharmaceutical representative for Merck, and later took on the role of Executive Director of the Community Action Program in Mansfield, Ohio. Melvin eventually returned to do medical sales and consulting prior to his full retirement.
Melvin was known for his deep commitment to serving others. Whether through his personal relationships, church, or community programs, he dedicated himself to making a meaningful impact wherever he lived and worked. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith touched many lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Nubia and Morris Ridley, as well as his beloved son, Wayne Ridley.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Ridley; son Melvin Ridley II (Torya); daughter Adrianne Payne (Thomas); and seven cherished grandchildren: Matthew, Nicholas, Melvin III, Josslyn, Jayden, Olivia, and Xavier.
Melvin's legacy of service, love, and perseverance will live on through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, located at 13312 Cain Rd, Tampa, FL 33625.
