Mozelle Una Clark June 26, 1928 – December 2, 2021
Mozelle Una Clark (nee Williams), the youngest of 14 children, was born to loving parents Nathan and Sarah Williams in Camp Bierd, Cristobal District, Panama Canal Zone, Republic of Panama, on June 26, 1928.
Mozelle, also known as Una by her family, graduated from Silver City High School. Following her graduation, she became gainfully employed at the US Army Commissary, forfeiting her dream of becoming a nurse.
In 1949, Mozelle married Nugent Josephs. From that union was born Eduardo Josephs (Gloria), Andrea Yizar (Robert), Eva Josephs (Tony), and Enrique Josephs (Joan). Mozelle was extremely proud of her children, often saying: “my kids are my best friends.”
Mozelle emigrated to the United States in December 1961. She began her journey in White Plains, NY employed as a domestic worker for several years, and saved up to send for her children, who joined her in March 1967.
Mozelle took every opportunity to “better herself,” as she would say, through education. To that end, she took typing classes and additional training courses which eventually enabled her to secure employment with New York Telephone Company, which later became AT&T. She relocated from Mamaroneck, NY to Atlanta, GA with AT&T, retiring from there in 1990 after over 20 years of service.
Mozelle’s Christian journey began early in her life as she played the piano, the organ and sang in the choir at the local Methodist church her family attended. She found a church family in each place she called home, having held membership at Strait Gate Church in Mamaroneck, NY, Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, GA, and finally the First United Church of Tampa, where she was an active member, and will be remembered for her singing voice and tambourine playing.
The strength of this phenomenal woman was underpinned by her love of God and her family. Her legacy of faith, service, valuing education and hard-work survives through her children, seven grandchildren [Nikki Josephs, Felicia Josephs, Ebony Yizar, Tiffany Yizar (Troy), Enrique Josephs (Bridget), Dante Josephs (Paula), Janaya Josephs], her two great-grandchildren (Caden and Brooklyn), and her close nieces Angelina and Joan. Her memory will endure through her extended family, her First United Church of Tampa church family, and her many friends.
The family will be holding a memorial service in her honor in January – further details to follow. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for charitable donations in Mozelle’s honor to Life Path Hospice or to a local charity of your choice.
