The beautiful Nancy Metzen Wilson passed away on April 4, 2018, at St. Joseph's Hospital North after three years of medical illnesses overcame her fighting spirit. She defeated cancer, but subsequent illnesses finally captured her at age 80.
Although born in Lansing, Michigan, she grew up in Tampa, Florida and graduated from Hillsborough High School. She was exceptionally intelligent, but was not able to attend college at the traditional age. When she subsequently attended George Mason University and University of South Florida, her competitive nature produced outstanding results.
She is survived by Thomas, her husband of fifty years. She also leaves behind her children, Bruce T. Fraser, Amanda Lee Wilson, and Matthew Lloyd George Wilson. Other survivors are her beloved grandchildren, Owen and Caroline Wilson, and Hope Fraser, all of whom adored her in return.
Nancy was the supreme homemaker. She handled that important and challenging task with great skill. She produced the epitome of a warm and joyful home, which reflected her happy and outgoing nature. The home was filled with laughter as a result of her marvelous sense of humor.
She was an avid reader and New York Times cross-word puzzle player. She also was very creative and was magical in her seasonal decorations. She hand-painted vases marked with her "N.W." And despite her glamour, elegance and grace, she was a very successful boys' soccer coach. All the kids loved her as well. This was typical since she enjoyed meeting, and talking with, people of all types. She was the embodiment of the Golden Rule.
A visitation is scheduled for Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel, 3207 West Bearss Avenue, on April 9, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Lawrence Scott Wilson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nancy's name to Moffitt Cancer Center, Boys Town, Wounded Warrior Project, or the organization of your choice.
