She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ray Cornett; three children: Yvonne Cornett, Mitchell Cornett (April) and Debra Brown (Gregory); Nine Grandchildren: Ryan Brown (Elizabeth), Justin Cornett (Melissa), Jeremy Brown (Shanice), Tyler Cornett (Amber), Logan Rexrode (Caddye), Evan Cornett (Lindsey), Aaron Rexrode (Bella), Shannon Cornett Mendenhall (Kenneth), Megan Rexrode Townsend (Alvin); and sixteen Great grandchildren: Zeke Coley, Alvin Townsend IV, Emmett Cornett, Gwynn Townsend, Caden Cornett, Ian Cornett, Bennett Cornett, Quinn Brown, Leo Cornett, Isla Cornett, Ruthie Cornett, Maia Brown, Miles Brown, Dean Townsend, Lucille Mendenhall, and Aiden Brown.
Peggy was a resident of the Tampa Bay area for 63 years. She took great pride in her 26-year career as the Administrator in the History Department at the University of South Florida. She was dedicated to her faith and served in the church in many ways, including as youth coordinator, choir director, and printing the weekly bulletin. She enjoyed music and was an enthusiastic fan of the Tampa Bay Rays. Stories that reach back into her life as a young adult always speak of her laughter and singing. This cheerful disposition and seemingly endless energy remained with her throughout her life.
She was also a tirelessly devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her great-grandchildren especially loved that she always had warm chocolate chip cookies available when they visited. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 10 at the Blount-Curry Funeral Home at 3207 Bearss Ave, Tampa, Florida, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:30 a.m., followed by a light meal before proceeding to a graveside service at Lutz Cemetery.
