Raymond David Murray, 73, from Lutz, FL. passed away February 17th, 2024. Born and raised in Tampa, Ray graduated from Plant High School Class of '68 and shortly after joined the U.S Coast Guard until 1974. Ray continued his education earning a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, a degree which he later used to serve the community of Hillsborough County, starting as a Correctional Officer and working his way to Deputy Sheriff until 1986.
In addition, Ray purchased the Carrollwood Barber Shop in 1980. He would eventually leave the Sheriff's Office and become a barber in his own shop. But, the barber shop wasn't just a job; it was a place his family would call a second home.
Ray loved traveling, especially with his wife Brenda. They would visit places all around the world together. In his downtime, when he wasn't traveling or at the shop, you would find Ray playing chess, listening to Elvis Presley or Rock & Roll songs to which he knew all the lyrics and release dates. Ray was a movie fanatic, with some of his favorites being war movies, westerns, and comedies. If he wasn't indoors, you could find him on the boat or doing all sorts of water sports like skiing, snorkeling, or riding wave runners. But what he enjoyed doing most was spending time with his family, creating memories that would last forever.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Brenda Hendricks Murray; children, Raymond David Murray II (Danielle), Jolene Murray Bracht (Alencar) and Charlene Felice (Gary); grandchildren, Matthew Kunz II, Mackenzie Lastinger, Nella Bracht, Makayla Murray, Raymond David Murray III, Nadia Bracht, Mitchell Felice, Matthew Felice and Meghan Felice; brother, Lawrence W. Murray Jr. (Tammy); sister, Vickie Murray Crouse (Mackie); nephews, Jason Murray (Suzanne), Joshua Weese and niece, Jessica McAlister.
He was like a step-father to Suzanne Fullmer (Rob), Kristin Muscianese (Tony), Caren Brush, and Melanie Brush (Nolan McInnis).
Ray was also "Grandpa", "Papa Ray" or "Poppo" to Jacob Muscianese, Brittany Fullmer, Christopher Fullmer, Allison Fullmer, and Vivienne Cerezo. He is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts, and in-laws.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Wilbert Murray Sr., and his mother, Carmen Rita Chao Murray.
