Rehana Gulnar Zeya, most beloved mother, sister, daughter, and wife, passed away on October 22, 2022, at the age of 81. Born in Bettiah, India in 1941, Gulnar excelled at everything she did, from raising five children and mercilessly spoiling six grandchildren; to graduating first in her class at St. Theresa Girls’ School; to speaking and reading Urdu, Hindi, English, Arabic, Farsi and Sanskrit; to reinventing complex Indian recipes for the American kitchen, including the world’s best shish kebab and dhal puri.
A talented artist, gifted gardener, and intrepid world traveler, she brought beauty to the everyday and lit up any room she graced with sharp wit, storytelling, and elegance. A constant force for good in an ever-changing world, hers was a life of integrity and generosity across a mind-boggling span of history, from pre-Independence India to the iPhone era.
Gulnar leaves an indelible mark of kindness on this world and all who knew her. She was truly a remarkable and brilliant woman and the embodiment of unconditional motherly love. You will be dearly missed and forever loved, Mom!!
A visitation for Gulnar will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Blount & Curry FH-Carrollwood, 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
