My name is Dale Pricher.  I worked with Reynaldo for several years at McGraw-Edison.   I remember his humor, his laugh and how he was always smiling.  We bumped into each other a few times over the years, I was with the Police Department and Rey was working driving buses for the Transit Authority.  He always had his smile on   … travel well Brother. I will see you in the clearing at the end of the path.

At seventeen years old, our father was teaching reading and writing to students in the neighborhood for twenty-five cents a day.

It’s hard to believe Uncle Reinaldo is gone. His laughter, his jokes, and his way of making every moment lighter will be so deeply missed. He had a way of bringing joy into any room, making us laugh even when we didn’t feel like it. That’s the Uncle Reinaldo I’ll always remember—full of life, full of love, and always ready with a joke to make us smile.

I know this loss leaves a hole in our hearts, but I also know he wouldn’t want us to stay sad for too long. He’d probably tell us a joke right now to cheer us up. So even through the tears, I hope we can hold onto the happy memories, the stories, and the laughter he gave us.

He arrived in the United States in 1960 with six other men, including my Tio Pepe. They were all soldiers of Batista, and he knew staying in Cuba would mean his death. Our father spoke out against communism in Cuba and did not want his children to grow up under such a dictatorship. He made this sacrifice for his family, even though his oldest brother Beto was a prisoner of war and tortured. Many of our family members passed through our home to get a good start. My mother was also very supportive, and together they made a great team. His advice to the youth in Cuba was, "Fight for your freedom, do not be afraid, take a chance. Live the American dream!"
His goal was to achieve freedom and bring his entire family to the United States. My mother and sister, Aunt Aida and Cecil, were the first to come, followed by his brothers and sister, one by one. His parents also came, thanks to him and my Tio Pepe. My father was a tenacious man who always completed his missions with passion.

I would also like to mention that my father lent a hand to many people, not just family, but also acquaintances he met while driving a bus for twenty-five years in Tampa, Florida. He helped them find work, a place to live, and connected them with local community leaders. He also served as the President of the Union for Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority. Our father advised all his children to try, no matter what, because hearing a "no" is not the end of the world. He never judged our mistakes, but instead advised us to get back on the right path and focus on what matters most: our family. He was a dedicated grandfather who babysat all his grandchildren with my mother. He knew that if we needed to get to work, he had to lend a hand.

My last conversations with my father were good; we spoke about our family vacations and laughed a lot. Something always seemed to happen to my brother Gus. I thanked him for always showing us what it means to lend a hand and be understanding to people
