Robert "Bob" Eugene Nelson, age 76, lost his fight to Mesothelioma lung Cancer after a three-year battle, on September 16, 2021, in Lutz, Florida. Bob was born September 12, 1945, in Van Wert, Ohio, to Dick and Phyllis Nelson, who preceded him in death.
Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeanette (Jean); sons, Gerrit (Kelly), Brian (Sarah); grandson, Everett; sisters, Terri Allee (Raymond), Patricia Lancaster, Brenda Jefferson (Joe), along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bob spent seven years in the U.S. Navy, on USS Valcour and later the USS John King. After getting out of the Navy he held various positions and completed various schoolings. He retired from GTE/Verizon Data Services after more than 20 years of service.
Bob loved being a POP-POP to his grandson, his lap buddy Gabby (the Pug), traveling, RVing, spending time with family and friends, watching football (Tampa Bay Bucs), hockey (Tampa Bay Lightning), the “Blue Man Group”, and recently reconnecting with his Navy buddies.

A Visitation for Bob will be held 2-3 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. A Celebration of Life will occur 3 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the Funeral Home. An Inurnment will occur 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2021 in Florida National Cemetery, 6502 Southwest 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida.
