Rufus Armstrong Jr.

Armstrong Jr., Rufus, On February 14, 2016, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be re-united with the love of his life, Marjorie Kite Armstrong, who passed away on October 27, 2013. Rufus was born in Asheville, N.C. On April 4, 1925. His parents were Eula and Rufus Sampson Armstrong, Sr. He had one brother and three sisters, all of whom were waiting with open arms to welcome him to his Heavenly home. Rufus and Marjorie were married on January 6, 1945 and were active members at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church since 1970. They had one child, Rufus (Randy) Sampson Armstrong, lll. Randy and his wife, Debi Pink Armstrong, gave Rufus and Marjorie four grandchildren, Matt Armstrong, who lives in Washington D.C., Dr. Brett Armstrong and his wife Sarah, who currently reside in Savannah, GA., Eric Armstrong who lives in Boise, ID, and Kaitlyn Armstrong, who lives in Tampa. In addition to his immediate family, he also has extended family living in North Carolina. Rufus joined the US Navy as a teenager in WW ll and served on board ship in the South Pacific until the conclusion of the war. Returning home, he began working for the Veteran's Administration in the supply department. His work ethic and dedication to his job helped him to advance to the position on Supply Officer. In that position he was transferred to Tampa, FL in 1969 to oversee and coordinate the building of the VA hospital in Tampa. He served in that VA hospital until 1980 when he retired. After retiring, he spent his time with Marjorie, enjoying his grandchildren, fishing, gardening, traveling, and tending to his butterfly garden. Funeral arrangements are through Blount & Curry Funeral Home- Carrollwood Chapel on Bearss Avenue in Tampa. Services are Wednesday, February 17 with visitation at 12 and celebration of his life at 1pm. Burial with military honors will follow at Lake Carroll cemetery. Pastor Reno Zunz will officiate. The family would like to thank Elmcroft Senior Living for the care and love they have shown Rufus over the last 2 1/2 years.
