Sonia Pagan (López-Vega) at the age of 89 passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026 in Florida, where she had been living in recent years surrounded by family. She was born on September 1, 1936 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and moved at a young age to New York City, where she lived for many years. She eventually made her home in Boston, Massachusetts. She built a wonderful life centered around family, love and resilience.
Sonia was a devoted mother to Gale, David, and Keith Pagan, a proud grandmother to Eric Pagan, Shelby Sutherland, Shane Mullen and Dylan Mullen, and a loving great-grandmother to Eden and Daniel Mullen, and Emma Sutherland.
She is survived by, not only her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also by her sisters, Dolly Pagan and Lily MacLeod, her cousin, Nilda Diaz, and her niece, Kim Pagan and her nephews Michael Pagan and Curt Rosich. She was preceded in death by her partner, Michael J. Santa Lucia.
Sonia was one of the kindest and caring people you could meet. She loved fiercely and was deeply protective of her family. Her love wasn’t quiet or distant; it was strong, present, and unwavering. A cherished tradition in her family was asking for a blessing—bendición—before every goodbye. It was a small moment that carried deep meaning, and her family likes to believe that much of their good fortune came from those blessings.
Sonia had a special way of creating lasting memories for her children and her grandchildren. She spoiled them not with things, but with experiences they would carry for life.
She had a love for the arts and travel, which she shared with her children and grandchildren, exposing them to all the beauty the world has to offer. Music especially brought her so much joy, from the Oldies to the current hits. Elvis Presley’s music became a big part of the soundtrack of her life in her later years. She also had a deep love for fashion and always carried herself with elegance, much like her mother before her. She was rarely without her signature lipstick and hoop earrings, simple touches that captured her style and spirit.
She was gracious, kind, funny, strong, and a constant presence - someone who helped shape who her family has become. She was loved by so many and had a way of leaving lasting impressions on all the people she met along the way. Her presence could light up a room. Sonia’s love and influence will live on in the lives she touched and the memories she created.
Bendición,Sonia/Mom/Grandma/Bici. We love you beyond measure. You will be forever missed. Descansa en paz.
