Born Virginia Louise Harman in the hills of Eastern Kentucky she was affectionately known as Jenny Lou to her family and friends. Jenny was born the 12th child of a large family. She loved and was deeply devoted to her family. She was once asked as a small child if she was a Democrat or a Republican, She defiantly replied, “I'm a Harman!”.
Jenny spent all of her childhood in Eastern Kentucky attending Summit Elementary School, and Graduating from Boyd County High School in Cannonsburg Ky. Her father bought her first Guitar at the age of 6 which she quickly learned to play. Much of her youth was spent performing for churches and local radio stations. She regularly performed on air with her sisters Joyce and Sharon as a singing trio at radio stations frequented by legendary performers like Loretta Lynn, Bill Monroe, and Flatt and Scruggs.
Even greater than her love of music, Jenny loved Jesus her Lord and Savior. She was saved and baptized at an early age. She was a devoted member to the local Methodist, and First Church of God near Ashland Ky. Her music became a natural ministry for her as she regularly participated in Church Choir, Orchestra, and gave solo performances. This ministry continued throughout her life.
After graduating High School, Jenny moved to Albuquerque NM to join her sisters who had moved there prior. There she worked as a telephone operator for Ma Bell, (now known as AT&T). Shortly later, true to form, contrary to her Father's advice to “stay away from Sailors”, she met and married a US Navy Seaman. She tells the story that he asked her 7 times to marry her, finally wearing her down to say yes the 7th.
Being the wife of a Military man and later ATF agent, Jenny had the opportunity to live and travel to many places across the United States. She lived in places like Las Vegas NV, El Paso TX, Bremerton WA, Coronado CA, Frankfort KY, Albany GA, and Scottsdale AZ. After relocating most of her life, Jenny spent the second half of her life in Lakeland FL. There she attended Warner University making Who's Who Among Students, and graduating with a Bachelors degree in Communications. While attending college full time she also worked full time as a Cast Member at Disney World.
Jenny raised 4 loving children, Ronnie Peterson, Steve Peterson, John Peterson (deceased), and Robin Peterson. She is survived by 3 sisters, Viva Click, Joyce Maines, Sharon Klupenger, 9 Grandchildren, and 5 Great Grandchildren. Jenny will be missed and her memory cherished by all.
Funeral service will occur Thursday January 11, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Idlewild Baptist Church,18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, FL 33548. Jenny will be interred at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Dr, Winter Park, FL 32789.
