Keith was born on May 8, 1963, to Edward Talmadge and Lovie Marie Barnett in Houston, TX.
He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Debra Stifflemire Barnett, on December 10, 1981. Together they had three children – Heather Hardin of Rockport, TX; Holly Kramer of Brazoria, TX; and Edward “Keith” Barnett II of Georgetown, TX.
Most of Keith’s life was spent working hard to provide for his family, first in construction and then in transportation. Keith was proud to have devoted ten years of his life to protecting and serving the communities where he lived as a Texas Peace Officer. His career in law enforcement began as a Milam County Texas Constable and included service to the Thorndale, TX Police Department as a Patrolman, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Police Chief.
After serving as the Chief of Police of Thrall, TX, Keith retired from law enforcement and moved to Freeport, TX to spend his retirement with his wife, grandchildren, and fishing pole. In his last years he found enjoyment in time with his family, Texas beaches, and the occasional hunting trip on family land in Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lovie, and his uncle Jack Barnett. He leaves behind his loving wife, Debra; his daughter Heather, his daughter Holly, his son and namesake, Keith, and daughter-in-law Kara; his grandchildren, Bryanna, Celine, Cadence, Elizabeth, Natalee, Kylee, and Braiidyn; his brother Clinton Barnett and sister-in-law Robin; his sisters Dawn and Ruth; his nephews Joshua Barnett and Kevin Whatley; his uncles James Barnett, Gerald Barnett, and Dewey Barnett; and numerous cousins and extended family throughout Texas and Mississippi.
A “celebration of life” will be held on April 23, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in Keith’s honor to the Texas Fallen Officer Foundation, which provides aid and assistance to officers and the families of police and other law enforcement officers killed or critically injured in the line-of-duty throughout the State of Texas.
