Anthony Valdes Sr., 83, of Tampa, Florida, passed away early Monday morning on December 8, leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion to family, pride in his community, and a lifetime of service to others. Born on December 19, 1941, to Anthony Palacio Valdés and Rose Busciglio, Anthony was part of a family whose history is deeply woven into Tampa’s story—his grandparents’ names remain honored in Centennial Park in Ybor City, a testament to generations of roots planted in the place he loved most.
Anthony was married to his sweetheart, Margaret, for 60 years—a partnership filled with unwavering commitment, strength, and enduring love. Together, they raised four children: Anthony Jr., James, Timothy, and Ashley, who were his greatest source of pride. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy and carried forward his spirit, humor, and values. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Alan Valdes.
A dedicated student and lifelong learner, Anthony attended Florida State University and Southern Methodist University, experiences that shaped his professional and personal life. He later became the owner of the well-known Crab Shack restaurant, a local favorite that welcomed generations of families and showcased his commitment to hospitality and community connection.
Anthony devoted many years to youth sports, serving as a little league coach and as commissioner of the local football program. His leadership, patience, and encouragement left a lasting impact on countless young athletes. Beyond his community work, Anthony was an avid golfer and a proud, longtime member of the Temple Terrace Country Club, where he built friendships and enjoyed the game he loved.
He will be remembered for his warm heart, his steady presence, and the kindness he shared freely with family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout Tampa. His legacy lives on in the community he served, the young people he mentored, and most of all, in the family who loved him deeply.
A Memorial Service will be held on December 20th at Blount and Curry Funeral Home- Terrace Oaks Chapel from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate a life well lived.
