It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Joseph R. Bryant. Joe’s personality, humanity and tales will be memorialized forever by endless laughter, repeated war stories and the escalation of drama.
A man of the people, Joe spent nearly 40 years as an attorney and litigator. Joe initially joined the Florida Office of the Attorney General, where he spent years working on criminal appeals. He found his calling as a plaintiff’s attorney, providing advice and counsel in cases of negligence or recklessness. Resolution was best in the form of unconditional surrender. As we know, making law was his specialty.
Joe was remarkably high maintenance. Simple conversation deteriorated rapidly and without warning, a characteristic leading to many friendships and memories. You earned his respect and although he was a Roman Catholic, forgiveness was earned, not given lightly or unconditionally.
Joe died peacefully on Feb. 26, 2023, in Madeira Beach, FL. He was found asleep, likely dreaming of his swamp property in Mayo, FL. It is there he will be forever memorialized at the foot of the cut oak tree.
Joe was born (‘59) in Tampa, FL, the third generation of his family to have done so. Joe attended Epiphany of Our Lord Grade School, Jesuit High School (‘77), Florida State University (‘82) and the University of Mississippi School of Law (‘85). Joe and his surviving sister, Mary Kate Bryant, were predeceased by their parents, Anna Arango and Raymond F. Bryant. Joe is survived by his children, Tyler Joseph Bryant and Marshall Douglas Bryant, nephew Raymond H. Mullen and cousins P. Daniel Alberdi Jr., James C Alberdi, Andrés F. Alberdi and Rosalyn A. McKenna.
