

The Reverend Lowell James Holstein was called to his eternal home on Friday, October 24, 2014. Lowell, 78, the son of The Reverend Erich and Louise Holstein was born in Osmond Nebraska on November 2, 1935. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet, 2 daughters, Julie Holstein and Susan Tumlin, her husband, Joe Tumlin and three grandchildren, Emma, Andrew and Kate Tumlin; all residents of Lithia, FL; a sister Eunice VanNatta, Tacoma, WA and brother, The Reverend Robert Holstein and wife Lucille, Sun City, AZ; numerous nephews, nieces and their children/grandchildren. Lowell attended school in Osmond, NE, Shaller, IA, Concordia College, St. Paul, MN and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. He was ordained by his father in 1964 and served as a Parish Pastor for 25 years. He served Immanuel-Marshfield, WI, Trinity-Tolley, ND, Concordia-Mound City, MO, Bethel-Ft. Smith, AR and Shepherd of the Hills-Kimberling City, MO. Lowell began his work with refugees in 1975 at Ft. Chaffee, AR. He served Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service as Regional Consultant in Trenton, NJ in 1976. In 1979, Lowell accepted a call to serve as Regional Consultant for Refugee Services. Lutheran Social Services of FL with offices in Tampa, FL. For 10 years, he served Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Cuban, Haitian and many other refugees. During this time, he also began serving as vacancy pastor for Zion Lutheran Church, Tampa. He served Zion for 13 years, culminating in Zion’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. In 1989 God led him to a new career. He recently received a commendation from One America Financial Partners for 25 years of faithful service as a Career Agent and Registered Representative. A Celebration of Life in Christ will be held Saturday, November 8, 11:00am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 14920 Hutchison Road, Tampa.
