KRYSTYN Mary Stott, 83 of Tampa, Fl. passed away in her sleep on November 3, 2022. She was born on April 30, 1939, in Berwyn, Illinois to Jean and Tom Stott. She grew up in various Northwest Chicago suburbs as well as in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Even with dementia, she still remembered the street address of every place she lived and was so good with directions she was nicknamed Mary Magellan. She was in the first graduating class of Glenbrook (North) High School in Northbrook, IL, before attending Carthage College in Carthage, IL. Mary married Robert Krystyn of Chicago, IL, on April 27, 1962, and soon relocated to Mount Prospect, IL in a neighborhood filled with happy, noisy children where Mary perfected her garage and bake sale skills. Mary believed in quantity over quality, but no one ever turned down her Christmas Cookies or brownies. Following an opportunity for her husband to work in her father’s business, the family relocated to Jacksonville where they eventually took over Stott Bolt & Supply. By her admission, Mary was an excellent bookkeeper until the company “moved to computers.” While working full-time, and later in retirement, Mary spent decades volunteering for various junior golf programs in Florida. When asked if she ever played, she always responded, “Heavens no! I don’t have time.” Mary was known for her quick sarcastic comments, Bud Light, and rescuing animals. The house was never without a dog, and numerous fixed feral cats roamed outside, waiting for Mary to bring them breakfast. Sometimes a raccoon would join the cats for a meal. When her last dog, Sweetie, passed away in 2019, Mary left Jacksonville to move to an ALF in Tampa to be closer to two of her children. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching Law & Order (“Hey, this one must be new!”), and knitting blankets. Over the years, she donated hundreds of these blankets to children’s charities in Jacksonville and later to The Spring of Tampa Bay. Mary will be missed by her children, Tom Krystyn of Tampa, Elizabeth Krystyn and her husband Rick Fueyo of Tampa, and Philip Krystyn and his wife Sally of Leawood, Kansas, grandsons, Jonathan and Evan Fueyo and Drew and Mark Krystyn. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Ruskuski, her husband John, and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Her parents, husband, Bob, and sister, Kathryn, preceded her in death. The family is grateful to the dedicated staff at Arbor Terrace and Lifepath Hospice in Tampa. No service is planned. Anyone wishing to honor Mary may consider a donation to First Tee North Florida, https://firstteenorthflorida.org/, or 101 E. Town Place, Suite 100, St. Augustine, FL 32092.
