Melissa Lee Jorgensen

Melissa Lee Smith Jorgensen Murley, age 54, of Thonotosassa Florida, passed away on November 3rd 2021, in Temple Terrace, Florida after a long battle with cancer. Melissa or "Mel" as she was known, was born September 1967 in Owosso, Michigan. She attended Central Michigan University and earned her degree in Hotel Management. She was also very proud of her time in the marching band. She married her first husband Jay Jorgensen on September 1998 until he passed away in 2006. She met her second husband Glen Murley in 2009 and married him in August 2021. She happily maintained that her favorite thing to do was shopping. She loved the beach and just sitting in the sun. She has been openly and proudly sober for over a decade. Her sobriety was one of the most important and most valuable things in her life. She was very active in AA and devoted a large part of her time to it. She always made time for anyone struggling. She used her own success in the program as an example of what was possible. She loved the Ellen show and lived her life in the same vein. Be kind, be selfless, be humble. Mel said the three things in life she was most proud of were her son Jordan, the success Glen and she had in their relationship, and her sobriety. Melissa was a beacon of positive energy and love to everyone in her orbit. Mel’s favorite thing in life was friends and family. She would do anything for them. She was truly at happiest when around family.

Melissa is survived by her husband Glen Murley, her son Jordan Jorgensen, her siblings Jeff Smith and Beth Smith. Many nieces and nephews. Friends and family from Michigan, Massachusetts and Florida. Many wonderful AA friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Marjorie, her sister Tammy, and her first husband Jay.

As per Melissa’s wishes there will not be any funeral services. Celebration of life services to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Glen Murley to be used in helping AA groups that Mel attended.
