Eugene Lester Barlow, 89, passed away on April 18, 2025, in Temple, Texas. Born on January 16, 1936, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Eugene lived a full and vibrant life marked by curiosity, humor, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of living.
Eugene pursued higher education with dedication, attending both Rutgers University and California State University, Long Beach where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was an early computer programmer and worked in sales and real estate. Exceptionally sharp in mathematics, he enjoyed working statistics with pencil and paper. His lifelong love of education was reflected in his commitment to personal growth and professional development.
Throughout his life, Eugene found joy in a variety of hobbies that brought him peace and connection. He was an avid fisherman who cherished time spent near the water. With a camera often in hand, he captured moments through photography that reflected his keen eye for detail and beauty. He also enjoyed the strategy of billiards and the comfort of a good book. Those who knew him well will remember his love for a good joke—his sense of humor was as much a part of him as his warm smile. `
Eugene’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his son Carl Barlow (wife Kathy), daughter Sharon Clay (husband Sean) and two grandchildren, Colby Clay and Erin Clay. He was predeceased by his daughter Diana Snow (née Barlow), and former spouse Bernice Barlow.
Eugene will be remembered with affection by those who knew him—for his wit, his passions, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his years. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
