
Glen Edward Latham, 88, of Holland died Friday, September 24, 2010 in a local hospital. As were his personal wishes he will be cremated and private family burial will follow at a later date. Services have been entrusted to Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Temple.
Glen was born March 15, 1922 in Sparks, Texas to Rollie B. and Mary Jane Latham. He grew up in Sparks and graduated from Academy High School in 1939. Following, he attended the University of Texas. Glen married Billie Louise Polk September 6, 1941 in Temple. Glen joined the United States Army during World War II and served in the European theatre, including Normandy from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Latham had lived in the Holland area for 61 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he previously served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Holland for 60 years and past District Deputy Grand Master for the State of Texas. He was a member of the Holland SPJST and served as Secretary – Treasurer for many years. Glen rounded out his community involvement by being elected to the School Board of the Holland Independent School District and his ongoing commitment to the Holland Volunteer Fire Department. His many awards and recognitions include being chosen as “Fraternalist of the Year” by SPJST and voted “Man of the Year” by the Holland Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, one daughter, Glenda Liles and her husband Jim Alan Liles of Holland and two grandsons; Reese Alan Liles and Brent Lee Liles and wife Sarah all of Temple.
