Margaret Pauline Hylton Shumate

Services for Margaret Pauline (Hylton) Bass Shumate will be 12:00 pm (noon) Friday, Feb 25, 2011 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Temple with Rev. Will Passmore officiating. Mrs. Shumate passed away Monday, Feb 21, 2011 in a Belton nursing home.

Margaret was born Nov 3, 1927 in Princeton, WVa to Carl Amos Hylton and Marjorie Nina Muncy Hylton. She graduated from high school in Mullis, W Va in 1945 and attended two years at Longwood College in Farmville, Va. She moved to Georgetown, TX in 1948 and married Charles Elmer Bass Oct 7, 1950. They lived in Temple from 1957 to 1988 during which time she worked at the Bell County Rehabilitation Center for Children (now Central Texas Children’s Center) and at Scott and White Hospital and was a member of Taylors Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by Charles on May 14, 1978.

She married Marvin L. Shumate Feb 13, 1988 and after retirement they moved to New Braunsfels. She returned to the Temple area five years ago.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Marvin L. Shumate of Spring Branch; two sons, Stephen Bass of Austin, and Charles Bass of Freemont, CA, two daughters; Mary McGoldrick of Rogers and Susan Groves of Temple, one brother, Albert Hylton of Wilsonville, AL, three step-children, Beverly Wennermark, John Shumate , Janet Moore and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Central Texas Children’s Center, 2000 Marlandwood Rd, Temple, TX 76502-2844.
