Mary Katherine Gray

Mary Katherine Kerby Gray passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 2, 2022 due to congestive heart failure. She was born on November 9, 1943 to Elizabeth and Travis Kerby in Houston, Texas and was a proud third generation native Houstonian and Texan. She met her longtime sweetheart, Ben H. Gray III, in class her freshman year of high school. Ben and Mary married on her birthday November 9, 1963 and celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Mary loved to love on people and had the heart of a servant. There is no greater reflection of this than her chosen career in the insurance industry where she happily worked for 35+ years. She had the best qualities of a great listener and truly wanted to help people. These qualities were also reflected in her many roles of service as a PTA volunteer and as a member of the United Methodist Church for many years. She never said no and served as everything from room mom to President of the United Methodist Women's group with multiple committees chairmanships in between.

Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 - "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."

Mary is survived by her husband, Ben H. Gray; sister-in-law, Dar Lane Onda and husband Tom; her daughter Katherine Dalton and husband Jay, son David Gray and wife Bernadette; five grandchildren, Kerby Gray, Jessica Dalton, Jonah Gray, McGregor Dalton, and Nathan Gray; plus great-granddaughter, Nova Gray, and several nieces and nephews. She loved and touched each deeply.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bear Creek UMC Youth Department, Houston, TX or the American Heart Association. On behalf of our family, we wish to express gratitude for your many kindnesses evidenced in thought and deed, and for your attendance with us today.

A memorial service for Mary will be held Friday, July 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX.
