In Loving Memory of Raymond Kenneth Dobson Jr.
December 19, 1942 – August 22, 2025
Raymond Kenneth Dobson Jr., beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22nd, 2025, at The Monarch in Cedar Park, Texas, after a courageous battle with Stage 4 Multiple Myeloma and Stage 4 Melanoma. He was 82.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Raymond was the eldest of six children to Raymond Kenneth Dobson Sr. and Helen Dobson. Though born in Delaware, his early years were spent moving with his family until they settled in Crete, Illinois, where he graduated from Crete-Monee High School in 1961. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with honor until his discharge in 1964.
Raymond married the love of his life, Dana Dobson, on February 15, 1969. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and resilience, spending 35 years in Hammond, Indiana before settling in Salado, Texas in 2004. Dana preceded him in death in 2017, and Raymond often spoke of their reunion with quiet certainty and joy.
He is survived by his three children: Cristina Dobson Trowbridge (Robert) of Indiana, Darryl Dobson (Melinda) of Tennessee, and Paul Dobson (Dali) of Montreal, Quebec; and four grandchildren: Lucinda, Kailo, Ezra, and Noam. He also leaves behind his siblings: Mary Gephart (Bruce), Patricia Zona, William Dobson, Sandra Dobson (deceased), and Ginny York (Steve), along with many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Raymond spent his career in Sales and Distribution for various snack food companies, where he was known not just for his work ethic, but for the friendships he cultivated along the way. He had a soft spot for animals—often taking in strays—and a love for simple pleasures: a good book, a cold beer, and a generous scoop of ice cream.
He cherished summer fishing trips with Dana and the kids, finding peace and joy in the quiet rhythm of the water. Raymond also had a deep love for music, embracing nearly every genre with curiosity and delight.
Though he jokingly called himself a hermit, Raymond was anything but. He thrived on connection, whether walking his dogs, chatting with neighbors, or enjoying a visit to his favorite local spot, Chupacabras in Salado. His warmth and wit made him unforgettable to those who crossed his path.
In his final weeks, Raymond expressed a clear wish: that no one mourn his passing with sorrow. He believed deeply that he would be reunited with Dana, and that thought brought him peace.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. The family will gather privately to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an animal shelter of your choice, in tribute to Raymond’s lifelong compassion for animals
