

Richard grew up in Freeport, IL and worked as a draftsman for Microswitch Enterprises. Later, he went on the road as a salesman for HB Plastics in Freeport, IL. He met the love of his life Virginia Lurati in 1967 and were married in 1968 in Freeport, IL. In 1969, they were blessed with a daughter, Shelia Ann Gray, followed by another daughter in 1975 Samone Sherie Gray, while also raising a stepson, Richard Garza.
In 1977, the family moved to Temple, Texas, where Richard continued his career as a draftsman for Texas Hydraulics. Richard enjoyed traveling with his wife to Mexico, Canton, and enjoyed flea markets, Padre Island. He also liked shopping and dining out. He enjoyed playing cards, eating at Chick Fil A and spending time with his family.
Richard was a quiet but loving man who will be missed by all of his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Shelia Gray, parents, and a brother Robert.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Lurati Gray, daughter Samone Alexander, stepson Richard Garza, grandchildren, Andrew James Tamez and Raymond James Alexander IV, and Tony Garza, Jaime Canava, Adam Garza, Bianca Garza, and Christina Garza and numerous great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Richard will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM.
