Edward Eugene Porter Sr., age 70 of Houston, TX (formerly of Terre Haute, IN) passed away unexpectedly in his home on March 17th, 2024. Edward was a caring husband, father, and friend.
Edward graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Indiana State University.
He served in the U.S Army, then later worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Edward thoroughly enjoyed his work and continued to work as a consultant many years after retirement.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and found contentment in fishing. He was a great storyteller and always appreciated a good joke. You knew it was funny if he couldn't stop laughing before telling you the punchline.
Edward is survived by his wife Jana, of 30 years, his father Calvin Wimberly, and his siblings: Gregory Hutchinson, Jeffrey and Natalie Wimberly, and Nyki White.
His children: Edward Porter Jr. and his wife Resha, Jeremy Smith and wife Danielle, Docial “Sissy” Porter, Gretchen Smith, Delano Porter and his wife RhaunDel, and Edward Burton.
His grandchildren: Zhanaya and Sheala Porter, Hodari, Ayanna and Rehema Brown, Delvanni and Dezaray Porter, Breanna Davis, Alyssa and Brianna Smith, as well as several aunts, uncles and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family friends, and his dogs Cina and Chance.
He was greeted in Heaven by: Nathaniel and Ruthie Porter, Docial Wimberly, Robert Louis “Bobby” Hutchinson III, Alicia Kay Hutchinson, other loved ones, and his dogs Gunner, Princess, and Smokey.
He will be missed but never forgotten.
