

Eva Helen Cook was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on June 27, 1928. At Eastern Kentucky State College (now Eastern Kentucky University), she earned her bachelor’s degree and met her match in William B. Hopp. They married on June 3, 1949. They eventually made their home in Terre Haute, and on January 10, 1956, William Hopp Jr. completed the family.
Eva was a homemaker for most of her life. She served as executive director of the local YWCA during the 1970s and oversaw the organization’s move from its downtown location on North 7th Street to a newly constructed building (dedicated 1976) located in Fairbanks Park. She enjoyed being a part of the University Wives Club, the Symphony League, Altrusa, Friends of Indiana Libraries, and the Women’s Guild of the First Congregational Church. She was a founding member of the Friends of the Vigo County Library, and served on the board of directors of that organization.
She passed away Thursday, January 29, at the age of 86.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, William Cook and Molly Alice King Cook; her husband, William Beecher Hopp; brothers, Roscoe Cook, William Cook Jr., and John D. Cook; and Sisters Jean Utach and Sara Nell Fuson.
She is survived by her son, William B. Hopp Jr. and wife, Janice, of Terre Haute; grandson, Casey Chatham of Bloomington, IN, ; sister-in-law, Peggy Jean Weeks of Florida; and nephews Bill Fuson (and family) of OH, and Bill and Doug Cook of Kentucky; and Cousin Virginia Brown of Ohio.
She also leaves behind many friends including special friends Tom and Linda Sturtevant, Jennifer Murphy, and Linda Wagner.
She was a gracious, generous lady. She was well traveled, well read, and will be sorely missed.
Private inurnment was in the Garden Mausoleum Chapel at Roselawn Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held at the Congregational Church on Saturday February 28th at 1:00 P.M. Friends and family may share kind words and memories at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
