Franklin Christenberry, 78, passed away March 24, 2019 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on December 31, 1940 in Terre Haute, Indiana to James Christenberry and Pearl (Barber) Christenberry.
Franklin served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1961. He worked for Peabody Coal Company for many years. He worked in the shipyards in San Diego in his younger years. He was a Free Mason in Masonic Lodge of West Terre Haute. Franklin also enjoyed all kinds of racing. His favorite Nascar drivers were, Kyle Bush and Richard Petty. He was an excellent mechanic and loved working on cars. His other interest was riding motorcycles. He was an amateur inventor, enjoyed woodworking and building waterbeds. He loved to spend time with his family and traveled with them often. He was an amazing father and grandfather, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Franklin is survived by his son, Frank (Lori) Christenberry; daughter, Kimberly (Wayne) Rowley; grandchildren, Cody Smith, Austin (Caitlin) Christenberry, Tanner Christenberry; step-grandchildren, Katlyn Smith, Eric Spangler, Braxton Rowley; and step-great-granddaughter, Isabell “Busy Izzy”.
A memorial visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Roselawn Funeral Home. The memorial service will begin at 7:00pm following the visitation. Per Franklin’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
