George Louis Petit Sr.

George Louis Petit, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning, November 9, 2025. George was born on September 28, 1934 to Alice Ruth (Jones) Petit and George Hector Petit of Terre Haute.

George lost his father when he was just 10 years old. Suddenly he found his Grandpa Petit becoming his mentor. His Grandpa taught him all about construction and told him to work and work hard, which he did. George found that he enjoyed learning how to build homes and built his first home at the age of 16.

At 18, he graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School. When he was 23 he completed his electrical apprenticeship and by the age of 26 he completed his bricklaying apprenticeship. He fulfilled his grandfather‘s dream when he became an electrical contractor in 1964, by starting AAA Electric. The company closed its doors in 2019 and George retired.

George was an avid bow and rifle hunter, loved feeding wildlife at his home, and liked playing practical jokes on family and co-workers. During his lifetime, he was involved in many professional organizations, including IBEW(70 years), NECA, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and BPOE, just to name a few. For many years, he was actively involved, along with his wife Delores, in the Terre Haute Elks Club, even serving as their Exalted Ruler in 1978.

George was proceeded in death by his grandparents, parents, his loving wife Delores, who he was married to for 69 years, his sister Ernestine Dragon, his brother and sister-in-law (Robert and Betty Michki), one nephew and several extended family members.

He is survived by his son, George Stephen (Marla) Petit, daughter Jacqueline (Bob) Collins, and grandchildren, Braxton and Shanna Collins, along with Keegan and Brook Petit. He is also survived by his brother Denny and his wife Connie Petit, step-brother Joseph Taft, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held for George at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home on November 14. 2025, with his interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Chapel.
