James W. Torpy

James Warren Torpy, Sr., 71, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Union Hospital. He was born on October 2, 1947, in Terre Haute to John Woodrow Torpy, Sr. and Helen (Miller) Torpy. James is survived by his sons: James Torpy, Jr. and Brian Torpy and wife Jennifer, of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Calleigh Torpy and Caiven Torpy of Terre Haute; sisters, Debra Torpy of Terre Haute and Bernice Walker of Lemon Grove, CA; partner, Marilyn Kay White of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Gore; and brother, John Torpy, Jr. James graduated from Garfield High School in 1965. For over 20 years, he worked as a mechanic at Dennis Trucking. James enjoyed working with his hands and also did carpentry work and carpet installing. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing. Recently, James had learned to cook and became quite the chef. He was a strong, hard-working man, good father, and devoted grandfather. He will be truly missed.
